Hi there.
Have you ever started feeling better, only to suddenly feel worse again?
Maybe you’ve had muscle tightness or pain that seems to move around or even intensify before it finally eases.
It can feel frustrating and confusing, but what if I told you that this could be a sign that your body is actually healing?
Hello and welcome. I’m Sarah Gowans, Remedial Massage, Craniosacral Therapist and Emotional Integration Facilitator at Blossoming Me and the Healthy Learning Lounge.
Here, we are a sanctuary for you to tap into and nurture your journey to health, well being, and a positive mindset. We focus on helping you clear stresses, tensions, and blocks that can hold you back from living your most fulfilling life.
Issue number one. Muscle soreness that moves or even returns
One day your shoulders feel tight. The next, it’s your lower back. You might even feel fine for a while, only for old pain to suddenly resurface. This happens because as one layer of tension releases, the next layer that was compensating becomes noticeable.
It’s not that you’re getting worse, it’s that your body is now actually able to address deeper imbalances.
Problem number two. Unexplained fatigue or emotional releases
Healing isn’t just physical, it’s emotional too. Our body stores stress, emotions, and even trauma in our muscles and other tissues. When we start working through these layers, we may feel tired, emotional, or even teary, without really knowing why. It’s all part of our body processing the trauma, stress, or emotional elements, and letting go.
Problem number three. Temporary increases in pain or stiffness
Sometimes after a massage, stretching, or healing session, we might feel sore before we feel better. This is similar to post-exercise soreness, as our muscles, fascia, and other tissues adjust to new movement patterns.
It’s really a sign that our body is responding to treatment and not resisting it.
Problem number four. Increase sensitivity to pain or touch
As our nervous system recalibrates, we may notice heightened sensitivity in certain areas. This can feel like minor aches are becoming more noticeable or getting worse. But in reality, it can be a sign that our body is waking up and, and reconnecting with itself. Sometimes after years of numbness or compensation patterns.
And finally,
Problem number five. Feeling off in your posture or movement
Our body has adapted to holding tension for so long that, sometimes when we start releasing it, we might feel unbalanced or awkward. This is temporary. Our body is simply relearning how to move freely again. Without the restrictions that were holding us back.
See, healing happens in layers. Just like peeling an onion.
Studies show that our fascia and muscle tissues take time to rehydrate, realign, and regain proper function.
So, if you’ve been experiencing these ups and downs, just know that you’re on the right track. Take a breath. It’s going to be okay. Your body is doing exactly what it’s designed to do.
