Did you know that trauma is stored in our body, not just our mind?

Did you realize that our body is a memory keeper? It holds onto every experience, every thought, every emotion, like a living library that stores the stories of our life.

Trauma then, is not just something that we experience in our minds. Our bodies hold onto it too.

Hello and welcome. I’m Sarah Gowans, Somatic Emotional Integration Therapist at Blossoming Me and the Healthy Learning Lounge.  Here we are a sanctuary for you to tap into and nurture your journey to health, well being and a positive mindset. We focus on helping you to clear stresses, tensions and blocks, that can hold you back from living your most fulfilling life.

A sign that our body needs attention

As I mentioned, trauma is stored in our body. Trauma though, is not just about dramatic events like accidents or abuse. Everyday stresses and long term challenges, like neglect or difficult life experiences, can also leave their mark on our bodies and our nervous system.  In today’s video, we’ll explore the idea of physical pain and tension, as well as mood swings, being a sign that our body is asking for attention and care. And how somatic emotional integration therapy can help you to gently release these.

What are Trauma Loops?

When life and difficult situations overwhelm us, our body and nervous system can contract.  This can leave us feeling stuck in negative patterns. We call these trauma loops.

These trauma loops can affect our daily lives. We may feel them as physical pain and tension. For example, a stiff neck, tight shoulders or headaches, particularly after a challenging day.  Alternatively, we may experience them as mood swings or disruptions, like an unending fight or flight, nervous feeling, that keeps us on the edge all day.  Or more intense emotions like depression, anxiety and overwhelm. These are more than just random aches and emotions. They’re our bodies signaling to us that something needs help, needs attention.

A Holistic Approach to Healing

By gently exploring our body sensations, somatic emotional integration therapy, helps us to close these trauma loops in a safe and resourceful way. This can ease our pain, tightness and overwhelming emotions. So that we can finally understand where these old patterns have come from, and then begin to heal.  We can take a gentle journey to reconnect with our whole selves, and break free from those patterns that once held us back.

So I hope today’s video helps you to see how this link between our physical and emotional challenges, together with somatic emotional integration therapy, can help you to release your stresses and strains, trauma and pain. Transforming your relationship with your body and your emotions, from one of protection,to connection.  From pain, to peace.
