Here it is…
Gentle Pressure
So I wanted to show you a couple of tips for self-massage at home. In particular, beginning gently because it can be really painful. If your body is tight and protecting itself, through your shoulders this can create tension in the muscles, and that can cause a whole lot of pain. That’s why we’re here! You can work up to moderate pressure. In fact that has been found to be very beneficial. But if you start gently then you’re not going to give your body another shock or cause more pain, self-protection and tightening up.
As you go, ask yourself these questions:
- How does it feel?
- Do you want more pressure or actually less?
Keep tweaking until you find your sweet spot.
Move Towards Your Heart
As we massage, we want to move towards the heart. So if you’re going to work the front of your shoulders, for example, work towards the heart direction, That supports your veins. You know those bluish-purple lines in your body, our veins? They have valves in them and that’s how the veins work. We want to protect those valves so that they can keep working. When you work towards your heart, you’re working in the right direction for those valves. That can really be very beneficial to promote good health generally through your body.
Of course, in line with the “gentle” work, less is more. It’s easy to overdo it when you’re giving yourself a massage. It starts to feel good, and then you go for it, getting deeper and deeper. What we want to do, is tone that down just a little bit, and keep it gentle.
Doing it more often, in short spurts, with gentle pressure, is more effective than trying to really dig, really hard. Digging really deep and hard, can actually exacerbate the muscle tension that’s causing the pain and even the inflammation. And what we’re wanting to do is help ease that. So we want to keep it gentle.
Now that you know a few ways to help reduce your shoulder pain, we hope that you put them to good use. We hope you become a champion self-massager, to help combat arthritis in the shoulders, and the pain that you’re getting.
